¡Hola! Me
llamo Deborah Ottman. Empecé a estudiar el español
en el 10° grado de la escuela secundaria. Recibí
mi licenciatura de profesora de CSU, Chico en inglés
y en español en 1984. Enseñé siete años
en la escuela secundaria de Corning, CA, enseñando
arte dramático, español para los principiantes
y español para los hispanohablantes nativos, hablar
en público, inglés I, II y III, y geometría.
Durante esos años, participé en el Proyecto
de Matemáticas de California y aprobé el Examen
Nacional de Profesores de Matemáticas. También
participé unos años en el Proyecto de Lenguas
Extranjeras de California.
Vine a Emerson en 1992 para enfocarme en la enseñanza
de español, especialmente a los estudiantes del programa
de inmersión que tenemos en Davis. Durante estos once
años en Emerson, he viajado a Costa Rica tres veranos
con estudiantes de intercambio y un verano a México
con la iglesia. Luego fui a México una vez más
y a España y a Portugal dos veces durante los veranos
con CSU, Sacramento para los estudios universitarios avanzados.
Actualmente, enseño español II y III, y trabajo
en mi tesis de maestría (MA) en español. Soy
casada y tengo tres hijas. La aventura más emocionante
que experimenté este verano fue conocer a mis parientes
maternales en una reunión familiar en Illinois. Me
enseñaron una canción juvenil en finlandés,
la lengua natal de mi madre.

Hi! My name is Deborah Ottman. I began studying
Spanish in the 10th grade of high school. I received my
teaching credentials from CSU, Chico in English and Spanish
in 1984. I taught seven years at Corning High School,
teaching drama, Spanish for beginners and Spanish for
native speakers, public speaking, English I, II and III,
and geometry. During those years, I participated in the
California Math Project y passed the National Teachers'
Examination for Mathematics. I also participated a few
years in the California Foreign Language Project.
I came to Emerson in 1992 to focus on teaching Spanish,
especially to students from the immersion program that
we have in Davis. During these ten years at Emerson, I
have traveled to Costa Rica three summers with exchange
students and one summer to Mexico with the church. Then
I went to Mexico one more time and to Spain and Portugal
two times during the summers with CSU, Sacramento for
advanced university studies.
Currently, I am teaching Spanish II and III, and I am
working on my Masters thesis in Spanish. I am married
and have three daughters. The most exciting adventure
I experienced this summer was meeting maternal relatives
at a family reunion in Illinois. They tought me a children's
song in Finnish, my mother's first language. |
